Episode discussion - season 8
Jan 14 2012, 7:11 AM EST
Upon Gusar's suggestion, this thread is meant for posting whatever comments you may have on all of the remaining season 8 episodes to come.I'd really like to see more participation here, people! I'm sure this is a good enough show to deserve it! Having started this after episode 11 already, and replying to Gusar about it, I'm gonna say that I really enjoyed the scenes with Bailey, Ben and Meredith. Ben really does seem like a nice and good guy, but I can totally understand Bailey's precaution as well. Did Bailey really think that Meredith didn't know all about her and Ben? LOL It's funny how Bailey still wants to keep all her superior attitude towards the residents, like it was way from the start. I totally get it, as people share waaaay too much of their personal lives in that hospital already as it is! Sometimes I wonder if it would happen to me as well if I were in their situation... And the stuff between Karev and Webber was funny as hell too. Not to brag or anything, but I was totally on to Webber when he pulled the trick on Karev for the second time. I was totally thinking "you old dog..." LOL And Zola walked. That was so cute! Awww... Do you find this valuable?

Webber really is a sneaky bastard isn't he? - "Watch your back Karev, I may decide to teach you something tomorrow..." Do you find this valuable? |

Webber really is a sneaky bastard isn't he? - "Watch your back Karev, I may decide to teach you something tomorrow...""Yeah, the guy knows it all. I actually like Webber's character better now than I did throughout all the seasons he was the chief. At the time, I was just meh... about the guy, but now he is a whole new source of humor we didn't have before, and that's awesome! This was even contrary to my expectations, because when I saw him permanently step down as chief, I thought the character would just slowly fade away, but he didn't! Do you find this valuable? |

"but now he is a whole new source of humor we didn't have before"Exactly this! I too find it awesome. It kinda feels like the actor's talents were being wasted before, but now he's allowed to shine. Do you find this valuable? |

So... Absolutely nothing about the latest episode 12, huh? Okay, then...Was it me or did Alex take it waaay too easily after finding out that Christina and Teddy had totally stolen his surgery? He probably never found out about the little scheme they pulled... That was just too sneaky! Christina and Teddy are doing non-stop surgeries because of Henry's case, in order to either not deal with it or make up for what happened. They'll just have to drop sometime, right? About the sisters and the liver case, I didn't know whether I should laugh or be totally irked at the doner sister. What a pain in the butt, really! A smack in the head is what she deserved! Geez! The dying kid was just usual Grey's sentimental fluff. Not that I still don't like it in a way, but I felt there was nothing special there, after all we've seen on this show already. At least it was better than having Derek save the day and leave everybody in awe yet once again, even though I feared this, as the title of the episode was "Hope for the Hopeless". And a very nicely done and touching scene between Webber and Adelle. I liked that and I thought it was good TV there, even though it was a bit random. We never got to know how Adelle managed to go to the hospital in the first place or why it had never happened before. Must have sneaked past the nurse... In the end, the fight between Christina and Owen was just waiting to happen. It's really hard to take any sides there, really. They both have their serious points... Do you find this valuable? |

"1) Was it me or did Alex take it waaay too easily after finding out that Christina and Teddy had totally stolen his surgery?1) I didn't notice it while watching, but now that you mention it... yeah, he seemed to be awfully cool about it. 2) I was irked from the first second. Right you are with the smack on the head. With a sister like that, who need enemies? :) 3) Wow, that's a bit heartless... When the mother was crying as the kid said "I'll be in heaven with dad"... That was real. Also, did you recognize the kid? The actor, I mean. He grew up a bit I thought. 4) Yeah, always succeeding awesome crazy surgeries does get tiring... and unrealistic. So this was a welcome change. 5) It was *very* good TV. I can't imagine going through something like that. Watching your loved one just kinda fade away more and more each day... 6) Oh, idk, I'd say Owen is more in the right. it *is* Christina who always gets her way. Other that that... First scene of the ep... I was on the floor with laughter... typical "Cassa de Grey" scene. I always love those :)) Do you find this valuable? |

"3) Wow, that's a bit heartless... When the mother was crying as the kid said "I'll be in heaven with dad"... That was real.3) Yeah, well, it was as real as TV fiction can get, sure. I just thought it wasn't such a great and thought-provoking case, and just pretty usual medical drama, as we're all obviously supposed to feel sorry for the dying kid who still had so much to live for, and even sorry for the mother. Although I had seen the kid actor somewhere before, I can't really say where... I just don't remember... Help? 6) Whenever in doubt, it's indeed somewhat easier to be on Owen's side than Christina's. She's a real stubborn and stuck up b****... Srsly... The whole Henry situation and hiding it from Teddy was no doubt a very hard situation, but still... Do you find this valuable? |

"Heh. You've mentioned the show in the other thread... :)"I did my research and I realize now that the kid was on "The Cape". I would have never guessed it from here, though, because I didn't really watch that show at all, except the initial promos. I was just "meh" about it, so I didn't even give it a shot, and these days I'm glad I didn't. Where I had actually seen this kid was on "Flash Forward", though, so that is where I remembered him from. Yes, this was yet another sad cancellation, because I thought that show had some promise and it could really go somewhere, even though it's overall quality wasn't too high... "even though it's overall quality wasn't too high..."That's an understatement. I bailed on the show in the middle of the season, couldn't take it anymore, not even Sonya Walger could keep me watching. Remember her from somewhere other than FlashForward? :) Hmm, we're getting a bit off-topic, me thinks :) To get back on-topic: No new ep this week, booooo! However next week is the alt-reality ep! Then, the valentines ep should be fun. Callie has a big surprise for Arizona, but from the look on Arizona's face... well, judge for yourself :) ![]() :) . Do you find this valuable? |

Remember her from somewhere other than FlashForward? :)Yeah, Sonia Walger had a very small role on TSCC. That I do remember. :) Not having a new Grey's episode this week is indeed sad, as this is the show that I have the most fun with these days. The alternate reality episode does have all the ingredients to be epic and a thing to remember for quite a while. Do you find this valuable? |

OMG, that was... Awesome!! I don't know where to begin, it was a laugh-fest through and through. Some things were made very clear: Certain people were always meant to be together (Christina and Owen, Callie and Arizona) and others were always meant to *not* be together (Derek and Addison - ouch!) Bright and shiny Meredith with April as her "person"... most cloying thing evaa!! :) Izzie being the one who went postal... that was... well, that was Shonda's "eff u" to Katherine Heigl for all the backstage drama. Respect to Shonda, I say! Everyone being creeped out by Christina... perfect. But then, when Christina caught Alex and April together... that's when I lost it! OMG!! Pure brilliance! Because then of course shit hit the fan: "Prince Charming and Virgin Mary" <- LOL! Meredith was fully right, Richard *was* always cleaning up after Ellis. Without him, Ellis would've been toast a long time ago. And Meredith's bringh-and-shinyness... all Richard being a good father. All him. I knew it! I knew the baby isn't Derek's!! First Mark appeared, then Addison was crying... I was just waiting for her to say "the baby is Mark's"... and she did! Not those exact words, but she said it! Some not so funny stories too, like Lexie's. Big ouch to that! Also, Owen's PTSD. Do you find this valuable? |

You know, for me, it wasn't so much about humor this time, but how exceptionally well thought-off this episode actually was. If you think about it, everything was new (at first), but in the end it was all back to much closer to basically the same, as almost everyone changed throughout the episode and became more of who we used to know.Meredith still somehow managed to find a connection with Christina and she ended the episode right back where the whole show started, together with Derek, as just some guy and girl in a bar. The Derek-Addison-Mark triangle was back as well in the end. Bailey was a minnow but we saw glimpses of her "normal" self in the final scene with Alex in the elevator where she showed inner strength (I had been very disappointed with her up to that point). Alex still revealed in that scene he has screwed up a lot in the past, like he did now as well. Callie found a connection with Arizona and her whole marriage and kids with Owen seemed fake, as well as her cardio specialty. There was clearly something more between Owen and Christina than met the eye there as well. Owen still had his PTSD, but he was working it out through Skype with some "guy" named Teddy, so Callie said. LOL Teddy was pretty much the only current character that wasn't on the episode but she still had this funny reference. And even though Lexie had pretty much nothing to do with her usual self, she still had her photographic memory and Shonda still managed to connect her with both Jackson and Mark throughout the episode somehow. And her own unknowing half-sister saved her in the end. I liked that too. In the end, exceptional episode, even more than usual. Even though I know that everybody seemed to be having a bad day, I must say I like our usual universe much better than this alternative one. Do you find this valuable? |

"1) If you think about it, everything was new (at first), but in the end it was all back to much closer to basically the same1) Yeah, when Friends did a "What if" episode, it was also like that, in the end everything turned out the same. 2) I totally LOLed at that :) 3) That was sweet, yeah. But how did Meredith know? She looked at the chart and knew. But Lexie gave a fake name, so... 4) Amen to that :). It was total fun for an ep, but I'll take "dark and twisty" Meredith any day over a "bright and shiny" one. Also, I'd rather have McDreamy instead of McDreary :) One thing though: I would very much want to have Addison at Seattle Grace. Not the unhappy Addison from this alt-reality of course, but I would like to have her here. Do you find this valuable? |

"1) That was sweet, yeah. But how did Meredith know? She looked at the chart and knew. But Lexie gave a fake name, so...1) You think she actually knew? That's interesting. I hadn't totally seen it that way, mostly because it didn't seem possible, and then there would have to be some sort of follow-up, which there wasn't. It may still make sense, though... I read a review where they said the only real criticism they had on this episode was that it was too short, as they wish they had seen much more, specially from the Lexie storyline. 2) Yeah, this alternate universe was much darker, sadder and gloomier than our regular one (despite Meredith Webber's whole different attitude), even though, granted, everyone seemed to be having a really bad day, in order to provide us with some more drama. 3) But then you would probably lose her on "Private Practice" (you watch that, right?), and you would also have to come up with a love interest for her (this is Grey's after all). Who would that be right? The usual "suspects" are way too entangled with other women right now already... It would have to be some totally new guy... Or back to Alex?... Ouch... "1) You think she actually knew?1) Seemed that way to me. She looked at the chart and then immediately jumped in to do CPR, even pushing Christina out of the way - an action one would do when it's about something deeply personal. 3) Nope. Only watched a single ep, the one with Leven Rambin. I'll watch a second time soon, as there will be a cross-over ep. But that's that. Do you find this valuable? |

I suppose it was meant to leave us hanging and in doubt about that in the end, as there was no time for more. 2) I was under the impression that you watched that, for some reason... Oh, well... From the little I've seen, it always looked pretty much like a more limited version of Grey's, with considerably less to exploit and only about pregnancies and babies, mostly, with a gloomier tone. Never caught my eye. Do you find this valuable? |

So, let me get this straight: we come from a three-week hiatus, one episode airs, and then we have *another* three-week hiatus... These guys are crazy... I realize there are not enough episodes to fill a whole season with new episodes every week, and there are the so-called "sweeps" periods where they have to invest, but they sure could even the episodes out a little bit better, imho...About the latest one, we all were extremely sorry for Lexie and her patient, that's for sure. Lexie will bounce back eventually, but it's gonna be hard. It was fun to see all the flirting between Webber and Avery mom, and specially Bailey's reactions and a few of her lines. It seemed like she was disapproving the whole thing, but in the end she wasn't. She is indeed Webber's "work wife", and a liberal one at that. And everyone got all dressed up for the party, but nobody really went. I wonder if Jackson's new girl will last. She sure had a cool line talking back to the guy, with all that Oxford posh. LOL Owen's revelation to Christina was a decent cliffhanger for yet another three weeks of waiting... *sigh* Do you find this valuable? |

"1) So, let me get this straight: we come from a three-week hiatus, one episode airs, and then we have *another* three-week hiatus...1) Wait, what?? Crap. 2) It's Derek's fault, he insisted Meredith be put on neuro, against her will. If Meredith hadn't been there, Derek would not have left the OR and Lexie wouldnt be doing things on her own. Also, think about the patient... A young girl, full of energy, and now her life pretty much completely ruined. 3) Work wife, LOL. 4) Sometimes I dig an English accent. Not in this case, for some reason. But hey, Mark finally got Jackson laid :). His speech was hilarious: - You and Dr. Hotness should be getting busy, if you get my point. Actually, she should be getting your point. - Are you twelve? - Why are you so obsessed with getting me laid? - Because it works for me. It's called passing the knowledge. - Also pimping ^^ LOL! 5) That marriage won't last long anymore... I just can't see it. While on some level they do have a big attraction towards one another, in other areas they're completely apart. Last but not least, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I miss April! I genuinely do. Hopefully she will have a good storyline once Sarah Drew is back from maternity leave. Do you find this valuable? |
