- After taking a vow ofcelibacy with Izzie to avoid getting wrapped up in dysfunctional relationships, Meredith meets Finn, while ferociously knitting in order to distract herself from sleeping around.
- Finn asks Meredith if she is with Dr.Shepherd, and after sheclarifiesthat he is married and she is...knitting, he asks her out on a date. She declines, explaining that she is not dating
- Meredith realizes that she is holding on to the false hope of getting back together with Derek and that it is time for her to move on. In response to this revelation she goes to Finn's office and offers to go on a date with him, if he was still up for it. He was.
- Finn takes Meredith to run an errand, which ends up being the birth of a horse. Finn is pleasantlysurprised to see Meredith's excitement and willingness to participate in birthing a fawn.
- After returning to the office, Finn sways Meredith to come up stairs to his apartment, take a shower, and have dinner with him. He promises to not sleep with her or even kiss her, which is a promise he fulfills.
- There lovely evening isinterrupterwhen Derek burst into the office with a sickly Doc. When Derek sees that Meredith is fresh from the shower and in Finn's shirt he assumes they have slept together. This leads to sever controversy in the work place.
- At this point Finn and Meredith have had two sexless sleepovers and have not even shared a first kiss.
- After beingharassedby Derek in the stairwell Meredith attempts to end things with Finn thinking she is too "scary and damaged" for him, and that she is not good for him. Here Finn admits that he is scary and damaged as well and that both his mother and his wife had died. The two share their first kiss after they open up to one another.
- Derek's passionate anger towards the assumed relations of Finn and Meredith, cause Meredith to realize she is not over Derek completely, but still wants to invest in Finn. This is revealed after Finn explains the realities of Doc's osteosarcoma and that he will die sooner rather than later, severing all ties Meredith has with Derek.
- Meredith invites Finn to the hospital prom, which is being thrown for Chief Webber'sterminallyill niece. Finn excitedly accepts the invitation explaining that he was voted prom king in high school. Meredith finds this cute.
- Meredith arrives late to the prom and descends down the stairs in a long, black gown which stuns both Derek and Finn
- While dancing Finn confesses that after his wife died he just tried to make it from sun-up to sun-down and that is as far as he could see into the future. But with Meredith, he couldn't help himself from making all kinds of plans. Meredith, who usually scares easily, is not frightened by his confession.
- Finn shows his not-so-sweet side and makes out with Mere up against a wall.

- 2.22 - The Name of the Game - Meredith and Finn meet, and Meredith immediately starts knitting ferociously to keep from drooling on him.
- 2.23 - Blues for Sister Someone - Finn tries to figure out who Derek is in relation to Meredith, and then promptly asks her out.
- 2.25 - 17 Seconds - Finn and Derek are clearly beginning to have issues over Meredith.
- 2.26 - Deterioration of the Fight-or-Flight Response - Meredith cries to Finn over Doc, and he holds her.
- 2.27 - Losing My Religion - Meredith asks Finn to the ''Prom". He tells her he has "plans", and the dark-and-twisty kids dance together.
- 3.01 - Time Has Come Today - Finn "throws in his hat" in the race to win Mere's heart, warns her that Derek isn't good for her, and admits that he's pissed about their hookup, albeit good-natured about it.

- 3.03 - Sometimes A Fantasy - Finn and Mere go on several dates, which Derek screws up. Finn promptly goes and screws up all of Derek's dates with Meredith.
