Season 1
Derek wakes up at Meredith's they still have no idea, they will be destined to meet again just a short few hours later. Derek is the attending Meredith needs to speak with about Katie Bryce. Derek wants to keep a hold of the fond memories of waking up with Meredith and the fact she kicked out so early in the morning, all Meredith wants to do is forget the whole thing ever happening. Derek asks Meredith out, and she refuses because she is his intern and he is her attending and it is inappropriate to do so. Derek almost gets hit by a pushbike, begs Meredith to date him after being so close to dying. Meredith tells him it's against the rules, it's the chase.

Derek discovers they he was not the only victim of the gunman, his wife was a victim too, she suffered a miscarriage. Derek is taking pleasure in giving his wife, hormone injections.
Season 8
Derek refuses to work with Meredith, he says he can't trust her anymore. Meredith comes up with the solution as her consequence for tampering with his trial and gaining back Derek's trust she will no longer be on his service at work.
