| Synopsis | Hookups |
| As Izzie busies herself preparing for a lavish Thanksgiving dinner, both Meredith and Cristina sneak back to the hospital. Upon arrival, Meredith helps Derek look after a man who has awakened from a coma after sixteen years only to determine that he would have been better off remaining asleep. Meanwhile, George is strong-armed into joining his father and brothers on a turkey shoot, with disastrous results. And Bailey finally realizes that the "Nazi" everyone is always talking about is none other than herself. |
| Recap of Events: |
The Thanksgiving holiday is more difficult for the interns and residents than any of them is willing to admit, as Izzie plans a big dinner at Meredith’s -- but it remains to be seen who among the invited guests will actually show up. Meanwhile, George endures the O’Malley tradition of hunting turkeys with his less-than-sophisticated family, and Meredith treats a patient who’s been in a vegetative state for 16 years but finally wakes up to find that his family has moved on. |

| Opening Statement/Quote: |
Gratitude, appreciation, giving thanks. No matter what words you use, they all mean the same thing. Happy. We're supposed to be happy. Grateful for friends, family. Happy just to be alive. Whether we like it or not. |
| Ending Statement/Quote: |
Maybe we're not supposed to be happy. Maybe gratitude has nothing to do with joy. Maybe being grateful means recognizing what you have for what it is. Appreciating small victories. Admiring the struggle it takes simply to be human. Maybe we're thankful for the familiar things we know. And maybe we're thankful for the things we'll never know. At the end of the day, the fact that we have the courage to still be standing is reason enough to celebrate. |
